My Take

Overall, I believe this is an effective tool to create presentations with quick real-time feedback from students. I like that the product is free and easy to use with a variety of question types such as word cloud, multiple choice, scales, Q&A, etc. I can click on a particular response to bring it into larger view on the projector. The product can serve my students and teaching better in some ways. If I am using a presentation in multiple classes, I have to ensure I reset results or they will appear for the next class to view. However, I can download results for view later. Additionally, I am not aware of a content filter or way to remove unwanted responses, and as the responses are anonymous, it is difficult to pinpoint who provided each response.

How I Use It

I use Mentimeter in my teaching primarily as a set induction or formative assessment. Students can participate via computer or smartphone. As an English teacher, I find this particularly helpful while reading aloud passages in class (ex: reading/performing the play "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller) to check in with students during and after reading. When I share a link to our learning management system, students can quickly access the presentation via link. Since students cannot see the results on their screen, I ask them to close their Chromebooks after responding, which helps with classroom management.
Mentimeter has a "freemium" business model, and I have only used the free features. These have been sufficient for ~50 minute periods. However, an appealing basic and pro feature is the ability for unlimited quizzes and questions per presentation. Educators are offered a discount for basic and pro upgrades.
