Community Review for Mango Languages
My Take
As with any online learning program, the course is only successful if the learner is driven and participates to the best of his or her ability. I like the way Mango is organized and it is visually inviting. There is a lot of reading and thinking on the part of the learner, which might not work for some students. Overall though this is a well-organized and pedagogically sound program that would, with time and practice, help students or adults improve their language skills.
How I Use It
I would use Mango Languages as a supplement and study aid in my Spanish classroom. It is visually appealing and engaging, and does a good job of introducing vocabulary and building up to conversations. There are different tracks in the program such as law or medical, for other uses, too. Mango presents words and phrases along with pronunciation and context, then asks learners to practice and finally assesses the learner.The site worked well and was easy to navigate. I do not believe Mango could take the place of a teacher in a language classroom but would provide another resource and/or allow for exploring other languages.
