My Take

Thingiverse is not moderated, so content might be iffy. However, it can be really useful, especially with older students. It would be great to have a Thingiverse created for K-12 environments. Caution: Many students would love to just find something on Thingiverse and print it rather than do the design work. Framed properly, it can be a really powerful design tool for students to understand the possibilities.

How I Use It

When 3d design is introduced, this can be a really helpful tool. It can also be helpful for students to do mash-up or remixed designs. It's also a good source for teacher-created manipulatives you can print if you have access to a 3d printer. A word of caution - there are many designs that wouldn't be appropriate in a classroom setting.
