My Take

Overall the students were highly engaged and developed critical thinking skills, communication (as the center was never empty and they were never playing alone), as well as real world application of their math skills. It did take time for me to critique each of their game write ups but the work was well worth it. Utilizing the concept of gaming helped to encourage my students.

How I Use It

I use this game to help reinforce math skills, problem solving, and collaboration. My students have choice time and one option is to play on LittleBigPlanet 2. They either are able to play levels and try to master them or they are able to create their own level. To extend the learning the students have to draw out the path, and then write what skills they used to master the level or to create the level. They then had to find the math concepts we were working on in the game and explain how it applied. The form was next to the game center and were due before they could play again. It worked well to motivate the students, get them talking, and to show my students how math is applied to everything they do.
