Community Review for LightSail
My Take
Lightsail is incredible. The library is vast, students are engaged, and the program gives me a ton of usable data to help support my students' reading growth. The questions are common core aligned and great practice, but do not interrupt the students' flow of reading too much - there is just the right amount of assessment. I highly recommend Lightsail to any teacher interested in inspiring a love of literature in his or her students!
How I Use It
We use Lightsail with our guided reading groups at the middle school level. Students pick books from the Lightsail Library, answer common core aligned multiple choice and open response questions, and track their Lexile Growth, which is measured through cloze assessments. While students read, I circulate to conference with individuals about their books and their progress. Lightsail gives teachers a ton of data on lexile growth, reading speed, and time on task that give teachers the tools they need to monitor and support their students' reading. Students really enjoy using iPads to read and being able to track their growth in real time.
