A wonderful resource in any math classroom
Community Review for Khan Academy
My Take
I am a huge fan of Khan Academy. I have used Khan Academy's videos to refresh myself on topics and to find new ways to present information to my students. I also recommend Khan Academy to parents who ask me where to find additional resources.
I am a big proponent of the Mappers program, as I have seen the targeted, responsive playlists help my students grow. I feel there could be more practice problems in each set, as 4 or 5 is nice to demonstrate mastery, but sometimes students need additional practice and more time on task.
How I Use It
I use this as a supplemental resource in my 7th grade Algebra I and Pre-Algebra classes. Student who may need extra support within a lesson can watch a video to clarify confusion when working on a skill. Students can also see the skill in a playlist, giving students some sense to the scope of their learning. Each skill has practice problems which I have often used as a formative assessment during a lesson. I have also used the Mappers program in Khan Academy quite frequently, which is responsive and helps students meet their targeted growth score on MAP as well as filling gaps in learning. Setting up a class can take a long time, but it is valuable to see reports of how students grow as well as where you can better support their learning. The only downside is often the example questions and videos are very difficult.
