My Take

This is a great product to use in the classroom or for the flipped classroom. Students can watch it multiple times and stop it and rewind to something they want to watch again. The examples are usually real world or simplistic such as a lemonade stand to bring the concept to the audience. The lessons are usually not overly long, but the monotone voice can be an issue. Overall I feel that this is a great tool for student use. One draw back is that in the social sciences the offerings are still limited.

How I Use It

Khan Academy is useful for new learning or remediation. I work with recovery credit students using a self-paced computer program to gain credits. Khan allows the students to watch the lesson and practice on their own to master the topic. The support and scaffolding of being able to stop and rewind the lessons have made these lessons have proven to extend the students knowledge to complete their recovery program.
