My Take
This website is perfect for students who are far ahead in class and want to be challenged. At the same time, it is also great for providing specific review for students who are not able to keep pace with the class. With a paid subscription, a teacher can create quizzes for all students in the class and customize JogNog quizzes for advanced, remedial or ESL students. This is great for differentiating instruction by ability. JogNog really focuses on basic content knowledge rather than application, so it is really suited for review or for pre-assessing students. The majority of useful classroom features are only available with a paid subscription. I definitely feel that JogNog is engaging for students and that they are motivated to collect their coins and build their towers. Many students thrive with this type of competition. The fast pace of the quizzes may be too much for some students, but many will enjoy the quick, competitive aspect Overall, a great resource for keeping students engaged, on-task and self-motivated!
How I Use It
JogNog is excellent for reviewing information prior to assessments. From an ELA perspective, there are many literature-based quizzes that are already created and ready to use. With a teacher account, you can customize your quizzes to match your own curriculum. There are many excellent quizzes available for CCSS practice, especially for ELA conventions. I can create classes and assign quizzes with a teacher account. Students who have previously mastered material can continue to challenge themselves. Similarly, I can use JogNog for my struggling readers. I can also use JogNog for my advanced readers. As I differentiate my instruction, Advanced readers can move ahead and then I can assess their progress with JogNog.
