Okay for Pre-K Students
Community Review for Intro to Colors, by Montessorium
My Take
For $4.99 I was expecting a lot more than this app has to offer. There's not much to it, other than building vocabulary and identifying colors. For a pre-K classroom, and maybe some Kindergarten classes, I'm sure students would find this app fun. After that I can see this app getting old fast. There are better painting apps out there, for FREE (such as Paper by 53), and the vocabulary can be mastered pretty quickly. I wasn't impressed and was hoping for a lot more options and engagement for $4.99.
How I Use It
I would use this app to help students build vocabulary around the names of colors, as well as an intro to artistic concepts. There are 5 sections: Primary Colors, Secondary Colors, Gradients, Paint, and Search. The Primary and Secondary activities simply ask students to sort colors into matching pairs. Not much to it. The Gradients section asks students to drag colors palettes from darkest to lightest. Paint offers 3 primary colors and a "brush" to practice painting. That section was the most engaging. The Search activity asks students to look at a scene and tap the colors being spoken. Overall, it's okay but not great.
