My Take

iNaturalist is a great way to get your students outside with their cell phones and or iPads to learn photo taking skills, and to discover plants and animals in their neighborhoods. Students communicate not only with each other but also those individuals connected with the scientific community.

How I Use It

I had students use their iPads or cell phones to take pictures outside of the school in the garden of any animal or plant species they could find during one 50 minute period. Students then spend the next few days in the library researching their observations and creating short reports.
