My Take

Fifth grade teachers asked that the students memorize the Bill of Rights. I had students work with Do I Have a Right? for two class periods with me in my lab. Not only did more than 80% of them know the Bill of Rights, they even understood a few of them on a deeper level through discussions we were able to have in class. The game itself makes memorization of the rights more fun, but is superficial in its deepening of the material.

How I Use It

I have used many of the games within the iCivics package as hooks to lessons I introduced in my lab. Students enjoyed these lessons so much that they were also working with the games at home.
