My Take
This app is great for anyone who is interested in learning more about our universe or astronomy in general. Google Sky is easy to use and has a multitude of resources to choose from. Students are able to search the sky and learn about planets simply by moving their mouse or finger over the screen. This app is great for any instructor teaching about astronomy or the universe. The additional resources through photos and podcasts help reinforce learning. I love that this app can be used at any age and skill level.
How I Use It
A great augmented reality game designed for education is called Sky Map by Google and can be downloaded through Google Play. This app is designed to allow users to explore the universe right from their phone or mobile device. Google Sky Map offers a few different ways for users to explore the universe. The first view shows the universe through a variety of images from several agencies such as the Hubble Space Telescope and Slone Digital Sky Survey. The bottom of the app offers the option to view planets, stars, galaxies, and constellations. To find a particular planet or galaxy you can search it up and it will show it to you. Instructors can assign students to search and find the location of a planet or to watch the podcasts embedded in the app. Students can work on their own or in groups when using this app.
