My Take
There are two versions of this app. Faces and ABC. The ABC app would only be appropriate for K-1 or 2. The Faces app can be used up to Middle School as a creativity tool. Students use photo images of food, tools, and everyday objects to make expressions (Faces), or objects that begin with a specific letter of the alphabet (ABC).
How I Use It
I have had students grades 6-8 look at art from Egypt, Rome, Greece, the Middle Ages, and so on and then replicate the pieces with this app. The activities forced them to focus on the artifacts in order to reproduce them and they had deeper analysis. It can be more difficult for some struggling learners to see beyond the obvious and use familiar shapes and objects in new ways. On the other hand, some learners who struggle find a freedom in creating their own version and the fact that there is no "right" answer. We tried to use this with some students with autism to work on reading appropriate facial expressions with mixed results. The fact that the faces are made of food, objects etc. made it too vague for some to really have useful practice.
