My Take
Reflex individualizes student learning. Students are introduced to new facts through fact families, practice facts they've almost mastered and review facts they're already fluent with. The entire program is disguised as an incredibly fun virtual world. The student chooses and maintains an avatar through the store, learns new facts with quick mini lessons and puzzles, and can unlock interesting and fun games that involve multi-step thinking processes! My students love Reflex!
From the teacher perspective, it also has a great reporting system. The progress monitoring dashboard that lets me see how the class is doing as a whole and breaks the information down individually. It's really easy and fun to use!
How I Use It
The program recommends students to practice at least 3 times a week, so we use the computer lab two mornings a week, and assign it for homework once a week. Anytime a student logs in an extra time, we recognize them for making a positive learning choice! There are great specific reports and milestones that can be printed to communicate with both students and parents.
