My Take
Docsteach is a great way to bring primary sources into the classroom. It is very useful in Social Studies classes or in English classes, where reading different types of documents is useful. It is easy to find documents that fit a variety of topics. Analyzing primary sources is a major factor in learning, especially for advanced learners. Science classes may even be able to use Docsteach with certain topics. Some of the documents are a little harder to read, but that is because of the handwriting of the author. Great way to combined technology and primary sources.
How I Use It
I use for analyzing primary sources. Since the documents come from the National Archives you are limited to what you can use, but you know that they are accurate. I have chosen the documents for the students, as well as allow the students to do more of the searching on their own. This app was very useful when we were studying the Constitution. Students read several different types of documents and were required to compare the documents, as well as use the documents to answer questions and as evidence in their essays.
