My Take

Even though the students did not enjoy using Diigo.com to annotate the text, they need to become comfortable marking the text online due to the requirements of the new online testing (i.e. Smarter Balance). I really enjoyed how they got to practice this skill! I also enjoyed how it saved all of the sites they randomly looked up, into one neat folder. Overall, I would recommend this app, just keep in mind that it will take longer for students to research this way, rather than by hand.

How I Use It

I used Diigo.com when students were researching information for their science projects. I liked this website because once it is downloaded, it goes onto your browser as an icon and is always available to use. Students then are able to save all of the sites they have read and annotated all in one place. I also enjoyed how they can mark the text online, without using an iPad. The downside is that students do not enjoy marking the text in general (on paper) and taking it online just makes it an extra step for them. Students said they would rather have a printed copy and use a highlighter and pen to annotate the text.
