My Take

My opinion about Desmos is that it is a great tool for students to work with while graphing. I like that the students can take equations chosen by the teacher and graph them on the website. It is a great way for the students to see how if an equation is given to them in different forms it can be the same line. It served my teaching better because the students could see the lines graphed in the exact location they should be. It was easy for the students to see if where the line crosses exactly. It would be nice if the website came with set problems and examples for the students to work through.

How I Use It

I used Desmos in my teaching by giving my students certain practice problems containing linear equations to graph. The students were asked to examine the graph and answer certain questions based on the graph. My students were able to see that a line can be the same even if the equation you are given looks different because it could be in a different form. This was a great opener for my students to learn to translate lines from point-slope form to slope-intercept form, and finally to standard form. The students were all able to see this. The students that finished early were able to work with the slider to see how changing one part of the equation will change your whole answer. The students really enjoyed seeing this. It would be helpful if Desmos gave certain practice problems for the students to walk through.
