My Take
This tool was amazing when working with Biology students. Students can work in class or at home. While in class, the teacher can monitor progress through a system called sable and then assist students on a "just in time" basis to help them with content that may be challenging. This system also allows the teacher to keep track of content mastery through both multiple choice and constructed response questions. Although the content presented is of a high level, students expressed that they learned more than they would have expected was possible. I love using these cases! There is also potential for flipped learning models.
How I Use It
These interactive case studies allow teachers a pedagogical method for students to work at their own pace, delve deeply into content and take on the role of a real world professional in a career field; all while learning deep Biology content. The simulations allow for interaction with the content and a greater understanding of what is typically abstract. They can actual visualize biochemical processes that lead to a variety of biological scenarios (from enzyme disorders to nitrogen cycle).
