My Take

Overall, I think this tool worked well in our Code Club where students had some interest in learning or continuing coding skills. I don't know that I would start with this site if I were trying to 'hook' kids with the idea of coding. Might be a little dry for that, especially for middle school students and younger.

How I Use It

I used Codecademy with our Code Club in a middle school setting. The students worked individually on their lessons and could work during club time or do more lessons on their own time. It is helpful that students can jump in wherever their current skills and needs are with the Web Developer Skills. I had no coding experience and started with the HTML & CSS course with the other beginners. Students with experience started where they were which was quite valuable. It does take time and commitment from the students to keep moving through the lessons but being able to see the product of the lesson you are learning immediately is valuable.
