My Take

For this field note I reviewed the Intro to HTML course, which is part of a large Web Fundamentals group of lessons at Codeacademy, a website that teaches coding with step-by-step examples and instant feedback. The HTML course starts out basically with explanations of what it is and walks students through at their own pace. There is a lot of reading involved and these activities are not for the faint of heart. Thinking and problem solving are required! The HTML lessons provide a nice overview and a good experience for high school students with an interest in Computer Science.

How I Use It

Codeacademy is a great tool for teaching students how to code, because they can work at their own pace and get immediate feedback. Students can work ahead for fun, and complete lessons at home if desired.
