My Take

Catchup Math is a formidable tool for middle school math. You can ask for a 60 day trial before making a decision to purchase for your school or district. When students are assigned topics they see a flashing red sign at the top when they have an assignment to complete. Question types that can be assigned are: multiple choice, fill in the blank and show work
Whiteboard space can be used to solve problems even with multiple choice and fill in problems. Students are given stars based on how many tries or assistance received to solve the problem. There are web links, math games and flash cards available to help students. It's worth it to at least try it for 2 months.

How I Use It

This is a good tool to start a unit. It gives a diagnostic on the topic to determine what topics to review before beginning the topic. Students can work on their own or lessons can be assigned. It contains many games for advanced learners to keep them challenged. Student progress isn't very intuitive. Student progress can be found for both students and teachers by clicking on help--> student history. If a student clicks on lesson, an explanation of the topic appears complete with examples
Students can also choose an activity to learn about a topic. Students must complete required problems for a lesson before they can move on. The site provides tools such as a whiteboard where students can show their work. Teachers can assign
problems that require the use of the whiteboard tools. Students can view the steps necessary to solve the problem and are asked to check their work when they finish.
