My Take

I love the idea of kids using critical thinking skills and collaborating with others at such a young age. This app is really engaging and requires kids to be active, to communicate and socialize, and to be creative and take pictures. The storyline is awesome and age appropriate. There are so many extension activies that you can do later. For example, creating a scavenger hunt with magazines or having kids classify objects/toys. This is a great app that allows children and adults to play together.

How I Use It

Alien Assignment is a great game that encourages collaboration and discovery for children ages 3-5. The app can be used in the classroom or in the home. Children can work individually or in groups to help the Gloop family repair their spaceship. The characters (Gleep and Glop) give you clues to help fix the spaceship. The clues require the children to think critically to find the perfect item(s) to take pictures of within their environment. Items include objects like a fork all the way to something as simple as something blue, something cold, something stinky, etc. Children and adults can discuss the pictures they took, why they chose the items to photograph and problem solve together.
