Community Review for Algodoo
My Take
Due to the steep learning curve I recommend introducing this in grade 4 and continuing with it from there. Next Gen science standards require modelling, and this could be a very useful way to do that in many cases.
How I Use It
I have used this program as a modelling tool for many different science units. Students can build almost anything allowing them to discover concepts such as buoyancy, density, friction, potential and kinetic energy, the list goes on. The learning curve is a bit steep on this, but once the students get going they can do amazing things.

3-D Mental Modelling? Algodoo is for you!
Algodoo is a great tool for learners to enjoy visual representations of physics in motion. Similarly, like many sandbox simulations that allows the users to experiment different concepts of physics, its interface is friendly for any learner using this application to develop 2-D models of basic to advanced concepts. With the given tutorials for learners to use the basics of Algodoo is provided for the student, it becomes the scaffolding step for creating more complex demonstrations and models for the properties of physics to take place.

Excellent physics playground with sandbox and lesson-driven capabilities.
Honestly, I wish I was a teacher so that I COULD use this with students. The interface has a bit of a learning curve, as there are combinations of navigation menu items and right-click context menu items that are not immediately obvious. However, the interface is no more complicated than Microsoft Word or some video game menus, so it wouldn't be any great obstacle. The only downside is that it is 2-D, as 3-D modeling would open up new ways of interacting with the scenes. However, the concepts taught are spot on.
