My Take

Achieve3000 is an answer to differentiated non-fiction reading. Yes, it does have a hefty price tag. However, the data I obtain from the program from Lexile growth the standards growth is worth it. The program is loaded with data that can be easily accessed and printed. Information can be used to group students, for RTI and conferencing. We are now in our 4th year of using the program and have created a blended approach in our school.

How I Use It

Achieve3000 initially assesses students to determine their reading level (Lexile). The program follows a 5-step system which includes a question to initiate thinking which leads into the article that is at their reading level. I appreciated that students did not know the difference in their reading Lexile since the articles are the same. Students complete activities which are questions covering various reading strategies. The goal is for the student to achieve a 73% or higher so that at the end of the month their Lexile is raised. When the Lexile raises, the articles is slightly more difficult. In my class, the students chart their growth and they are excited to see the gains they have made from the beginning of the year. Class is not just about completing activities on the computer because there are many other resources and printable worksheets that can be use for guided reading.
