An Engaging Timeline Tool for Strolling Down History
It’s almost not fair to call this a timeline app. HSTRY doesn't have to focus on just the chronological order of events, it could even be used to guide student through any topic. I really enjoyed the amount of control this app gave me while creating a timeline. It allows me to offer a variety options for the students. The students love that there were videos embedded in the timeline. They even liked the review questions in the middle of the quiz because they said were interacting with the timeline. The only downside is that there are two versions: the free and the premium. The free version is limited compared to the premium version. For instance, HSTRY professionally made timelines and printing is only available through the premium version. That being said, what you are capable of doing with the free version is pretty remarkable.

Timelines that are not just for history!
On the surface, Hstry is designed to give students a chance to create timelines to demonstrate understanding of key historical content. It is indeed useful for this, but it is also useful as a medium for demonstrating understanding of novels, of the way events (real or fictional) relate to each other, and the sometimes difficult concept of cause and effect.
Not all students have seen the creative potential of Hstry, but for those who have, it has been a really fun and innovative way to demonstrate knowledge and to learn to represent ideas in creative ways. Those students who harnessed the creative potential of the site have inspired others to go beyond straightforward representations of information to try and be more analytical and creative.
