CK-12 is most useful for busy teachers with the insight, and motivation to produce their own multimedia enhanced textbooks but who do not have time to start from scratch. Though marketed directly to students, CK-12 functions best as digital library/laboratory for teachers to select, enhance, and compile modular content into books and courses that can be distributed on and offline. Like Wikipedia, the quantity and quality of these modular components varies considerably. Benefitting from millions in government and foundation support for STEM subjects, Science and Math resources are abundant, varied and of almost uniformly high quality. In a world of budget cuts, CK-12 has saved us.
While there are limited history resources on CK-12, the sources they have are valuable. I like that there are multiple formats to read including PDF (which is great as a teacher if I want to project on the SMART board), or the kids can download the book to their iPhone or tablet.

Flexible online textbook-- lots of resources!
I use this website as a resource when I'm searching for background information on a particular topic. I would say that 80% of the things I've accessed have been of very high quality. Sometimes there are videos on there that an average YouTube.com search would not find. All of the videos have been vetted by other users, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're great.
