Quizlet is great for memorizing vocabulary terms
Quizlet is a fun way for students to memorize their vocabulary terms. I especially like the smartphone app. This allows students to study while commuting to and from school. The students can create quizzes, but you will find quizzes already created for you. While it is not 100% reliable, I teach my students to check for reliability before they begin studying. Once the information is inputted Quizlet will generate a test for you, play a game, or use the flashcard feature. As a teacher I love being able to regenerate the test in different formats. The only difficult part is scrolling through the many quizzes that have been created. Quizlet needs to improve the navigation feature as more and more quizzes are being created daily.

Quizlet sets are shareable by URL and can be placed on teacher websites and can be embedded as well. Providing students with your username allows them to search for your account and practice your Quizlet sets.

Notecards for a digital age
Quizlet has a team of people actively working to improve their product for teacher/student use. Over the course of the 2013-14 school year they have made significant updates to their site and how it can be used, making it a more powerful teaching/learning tool. Like any tool, an individual can use it poorly or well but that does not diminish the potential and quality of what Quizlet has going right now.

In the foreign language classroom, the uses of Quizlet are only limited by the teacher's creativity.
The uses for Quizlet in and out of the classroom are endless. Yes, it uses the simple concept of creating and flashing flashcards; however, it does it in a sneaky way that students find less obnoxious than creating physical flashcards. There will always be facts to learn. Learning facts is at the foundation of the pyramid of learning. Does Quizlet promote higher levels of thinking? Probably not (though, if used creatively it certainly can). Does it provide a foundation for higher thinking? Most definitely.
