Great for direction for teachers & students new to programming
Code HS provides an approachable learning environment for students to interact with programming. It is well scaffolded and includes instructional videos so that students can revisit for additional support. It is not sufficient as a stand alone class tool, but more of a supplement, similar to a text book. It does not contain any additional materials such as daily checks for understanding or analyzing code practice. There is a nice progress chart that shows which programs the students have successfully completed.

Lackluster intro to programming
CodeHS allows students to go through programming videos, quizzes, and programming practice assignments to build basic coding skills. It's not a bad set up, and does get students typing out actual code. Some students did like the set up and flourished under it. I particularly liked the quizzes which had students practicing proper syntax in programming.
The downside was most of the kids were not very interested in moving the dog around the screen. They were much more excited by Code.org's Angry Birds themed and Plants Vs Zombies themed programming resources. They also liked Khan Academy's CS page more because they got to design their own art using the coding. CodeHS feels very restricted.
