Cool Math can be used in lower grade levels to teach basic math skills. As students progress they can move forward without being held back or making other students feel like the are slow. Cool Math provides students the ability to master basic math skills.

Cool Math is a great site for reviewing a concept that has been recently taught. I would not recommend it for teaching a concept initially. However, students will often request time to play on Cool Math if they've finished their classroom assignment in any core subject---if they're going to have free time, then why not play a game where you might learn something or have your memory jogged?

This website is not researched-based. The games are not organized by standard, which would be helpful for classroom teachers. It's very easy for students to get "off task" and find activities that are not very educational.

I do not allow my students to use this site.

There are lots of great math games but my experience is that students choose games that are more a game experience than a math experience. Many choose to play the Run game, they control a player that runs on blocks, or Bloon's Tower Defense, students watch balloons pop, rather than other great math games that would increase their math skills and knowledge.

I like how user friendly this site is. Students are always excited when they get to "play".
