Minecraft Takes Students Into Immersive Learning.
I have been using Minecraft Edu for many years in the classroom, and I have to say the new version is excellent and is getting better all the time as the people at Microsoft and Minecraft work to make elements of the Education Edition more vibrant and more pertinent to what students are learning in school today. For example, now there is Code Connection where you can code in the game, and the Chemistry update has just taken learning Chemistry to a whole new place. We are teaching a generation of connected students, and they often will learn better and be more engaged in an immersive environment. Is it necessary for all subjects? No. But having it as a tool to enhance learning is something valuable and should be used making education as fun and engaging as possible.

Reading and Minecraft go Hand-in-Hand
The only struggle we had with Minecraft was getting kids to stop when the time was up. They really had a ton of fun with this activity. I did walk the room and check to see what was happening on each screen, but the kids were always on task because they enjoyed it so much.

Encourages Critical Thinking and Student Cooperation
I like this activity because my classes are made up of students from different teams in my building. When they are participating in this activity there are no teams. They all help and support each other. There is a real sense of creating a community and encouraging teamwork. They work together to create a shelter. they share milk to counter act poison. Since I still have some colleagues not in favor of computer "games" my only rule is that they may not "kill" each other off.

Collaborate for Adventure in New Worlds
Minecraft is highly engaging. The kids love the functionality and interactivity. I like the fact that the kids are creating and collaborating in meaningful ways.
A limitation is the account, which costs 27.00 per student. Also, students need to discuss away from the game if they are going to effectively plan and collaborate to create something that is directed with purpose.
