Tech Balance: Family Engagement Tools to Talk Tech and Media Habits with Parents

Talking to parents about their media and tech habits at home can be difficult. Many parents avoid the subject for fear of being judged and lectured. Rather than talking at parents, let's focus on engaging them in conversation and making the topic less taboo and more motivational. In this edWebinar, we will be sharing and brainstorming interactive exercises and discussions to use with parents of young children to promote a healthy balance of media and technology at home. Rocío López, manager of community partnerships for the Common Sense Latino Program, shares best practices in leading workshops with lower-income and monolingual Spanish-speaking families and provides tools and resources.
Attendees will:
Learn best practices for engaging families in the topics of healthy media and tech habits.
Brainstorm an activity they can facilitate at their next parent event.
Receive interactive materials for parents, as well as flyers (PDFs) for Common Sense's brand-new text message program, Tech Balance.
Parents can sign up for Tech Balance (available in English and Spanish) by texting the word kids or familia to the number 21555 to receive Common Sense tips every week right in the palm of their hand for free!
