Setting AI Expectations: Creating Clarity in Classrooms

As AI becomes a more common tool in students’ academic lives, many are left wondering, “Is this cheating?” Our students deserve clarity and a voice when it comes to AI expectations in their classes.
This edWebinar will explore the steps Common Sense Education took to develop a common language tool that empowers teachers to set clear AI expectations at both the syllabus and assignment levels. These guides were developed alongside teachers and students, giving both a voice in the process. The guidelines are quick for teachers to adjust to meet learning goals of particular assignments and easy for students to understand. They provide consistency across teachers and subject areas.
The presenters will demonstrate how teachers are using this tool to co-create expectations with their students, aligning AI use with educational outcomes. Join us to learn about a collaborative, schoolwide approach to clearly communicating AI expectations in the classroom, empowering students and teachers to utilize AI in ways that further learning. You’ll leave with a replicable template to use in your own school site to set clear expectations with your own students.
