LESSON

The Assumptions We Make

How do the partial pictures we present online shape how others see us?

Online, we only see "partial pictures" of others, and they only see parts of us. Help students uncover how self-presentation varies across platforms, and how others form impressions from these curated glimpses. They'll examine assumptions made from limited information and explore the relationship between how we present ourselves and how others perceive our digital presence.

Objectives

  • Recognize how assumptions are formed based on limited information in both the physical and digital worlds
  • Understand how and why people choose different self-presentation strategies online
