How I Use It
I recently needed to view a Flash-based program with my students, but we only had iPads to use . I downloaded Puffin Academy and found that the program I needed is one of their whitelisted educational websites. By using the Puffin Academy app as my browser, I was able to view and interact with the program as if I were viewing it online. My 4th grade class had no trouble with glitches and the process was quite easy for them to do. We searched for our program on Puffin Academy, then added it to our homescreen. Now the students just have to click on the icon with the Puffin app, and they are taken straight to their content.
My Take
I was in a Flash-based pinch and Puffin Academy solved my problem. My students were able to view and interact with the website without a single problem. I was pleased to see that there are many other websites we visit on computers that are now accessible to us on the iPad. The sites listed on the Puffin app are all whitelisted educational websites, so I feel confident with my students interacting with it. Users can search through the whitelisted sites by name or use the search tools, which are organized by content area. I wish these had more options to narrow my search by grade level.
