How I Use It
I use Zaption in different ways. One to consolidate knowledge after watching a video, including questions as checkpoints or to make sure that students are understanding the main concepts/ideas in the video. Another way to use it is to flip the classroom. I record myself teaching something and include questions students must answer. It works quite well with students if the duration of the video is not too long, depending on age, but for the ones I teach 11-14 years old they shouldn´t be more than 3-4min, if not they lose interest.
Zaption is quite easy to work with, just pick a video from youtube, vimeo... or make your own one and then start to add questions in different formats or highlight areas in the video that are important for the students. I like the idea of students being independent time to time and for that purpose is perfect as students just need to watch the video and answer the questions. Later you can check the answers and the understanding of the video by students. I like the interface but sometimes to set a specific point of the video to return when students answer the questions wrong is not very easy, but expect that, not difficult to prepare a video. Also if you like to flip some of your lesson in a classroom, it is a great tool for students who missed some lessons as they can catch up easily.
