How I Use It

I like to introduce it to my students several times in class. We all go through the intro together as that often stumps students ... choose "quia web" then "subject" then "textbook" then type in your level and chapter for keywords. If students mess any of this up you go over it many times and as a result I keep directions on my website to refer kids to. Once we've had 2-3 practice sessions, I feel comfortable moving on ... it then becomes one of the places students can visit during free study time, or a site students can go to for practicing before a quiz or test. Again, some students HATE quia ... and others LOVE it. It just depends!

My Take

QUIA.com is one of the websites I visit a few times with my students in class, and then leave up to them as an additional resource should they want more time to practice at home, especially in a game-driven context. My reaction to it is that it's A) difficult to set up (for not all students, but some); B) somewhat dated; C) not many students' favorite website -- yet it is for others; D) because it is a user-produced database it often contains misinformation which frustrates students to no end. Still, one more tool to have in your arsenal of "ways you can practice ...".
