How I Use It
I used Pear Deck the other day to present information on the Vietnam War to students and collect opinion data and content understanding as well. Students received information on the Vietnam War and were able to voice their opinion on issues that were occurring during that time period, which led to further class discussion and different points of view of the same events. Students constantly interacting during Pear Deck was what worked the best for everyone involved both students and teachers. Students were constantly engaged and excited to voice their opinion during the lesson. One issue I had with Pear Deck was that I wanted to create a political spectrum on students social and economic ideas, but I was unable to directly edit the grid that Pear Deck provided me for the drag portion of the app. I had to go to Google Drive, create my own Google Drawing, download it as an image, and then upload that image into Pear Deck. It would have been much easier to edit it directly on Pear Deck.
My Take
I thought it was great, primarily because of how engaged the students were during the lesson and how I was able to assess the students during the presentation much easier than other activities I've done. My only concern is not overusing it, so that it does not become stale in the classroom and student become bored and disinterested in it. Again, I wish there was more room to edit the templates they give you in Pear Deck for the dragging questions
