How I Use It
This year I used Office Mix to create an online professional learning course. I was able to create a PowerPoint presentation, complete with transitions and animations. I was also able to use the digital inking tools to highlight and emphasize information on the slides. I didn't use the webcam feature but could have if I wanted to add a personal touch. What I liked most was the ability to record or re-record just a single slide. With some screencasting apps, I would have to start all over from the beginning. I didn't have to worry about what content I needed to say on each slide because it shows the presenter notes at the top of the screen for you. This was perfect for the online course I had to create! Once I uploaded to Mix (the website) I was able to share it in a variety of ways and could have required participants to login to see the material (this way I could have reviewed the analytics for the video). I think this tool is going to be great for our teachers as they move toward blended learning .
I really love Office Mix! I am actually looking forward to creating more content with Mix for teachers but also for students! I serve two campuses and when it comes to teaching students technology I can't be in 2 places at one time. With Office Mix, I'll be able to create a screencast of the tech lesson and share it with teachers and their students. This will allow them to watch it when they want and if they need to go back and review the content again they can do that. I haven't used the other apps with Office Mix yet but I plan to use the quiz feature really soon!
