How I Use It
Learning is no longer simply the memorization of facts and figures – learning is done collaboratively in a meaningful way by sharing what is known in regards to specific topics, issues, or events. Anyone can enrich the learning of others and Livebinders is the perfect too for this. Livebinders can be used by teachers and students alike as a curation tool.
As a student, livebinders can help the students organize their information related to a certain topic and help them learn how they learn. Livebinders allows the students to filter through the endless amount of information at their fingertips and organize it in a way that will help them make sense of it.
Livebinders is used in my classroom primarily as a curation tool. As a teacher it has helped to create a more transparent classroom for my students and parents. Parents can access any of the information I share with my students at any time. The binder can be kept private and shared only with others through a code you can create and provide to your audience.
For my students, the ease of navigation, bookmarklet feature, and ability to upload information has made it an ideal tool for a portfolio of their learning. Students can show anyone what they have learned for an entire year- all in one place!
Gone are the days of hole punching and organizing papers with tab dividers, only to have have your students lose the papers. Livebinders is a FREE virtual three ring binder that allows the user to organize their information according to topics, collect information, and curate it into a very easy to use learning tool. Livebinders has several wonderful features – the ability to add a “bookmarklet’’ to your browser, iPad and Android apps, an excellent support community on Twitter, and the ability to share your binder with others. You are able to view binders by category and search binders for specific topics. Information is easily organized using tabs and sub tabs. You can add almost any type of information to your binder – from websites, to documents, to videos. Beyond the free version, which offers 100 MB of storage, there are optional paid versions.
The potential for students with livebinders is staggering. Livebinders can be used by students to create electronic portfolios to showcase their learning or talents. Livebinders allows students to evaluate, assess, filter and organize information in more effective ways than ever before.
As a teacher, Livebinders will help to make your classroom more transparent and organized. Livebinders can also be used to replace worn-out textbooks – updated and current information can now be at your students’ fingertips.
