How I Use It
I use LearnZillion in my ELA classroom in several different ways. The lessons are packed full of great materials that I customize for my own use. I might use a video for one lesson, but then choose to download the slides and adapt the materials for another lesson. When I am just not sure about how to tackle instruction for a particular standard, I turn to LearnZillion for ideas. The Read Aloud videos are great for ELL and struggling learners; they are also perfect for students who were absent. All of the resources are right there on the site, so you don't need a textbook or any other materials. I have been very successful in using LearnZillion lessons during Second Chance Learning. I can assign specific lessons to students who have not achieved proficiency in order to provide targeted instruction in certain areas. The videos are fantastic and my students find them engaging. Parents can create their own accounts and they appreciate these lessons at home. They are perfect for extra practice during summer and winter breaks. An outstanding resource!
LearnZillion makes it very easy to differentiate my instruction. I receive a tremendous amount of data from my building regarding state assessments. LearnZillion lessons allow me to assign certain lessons to students who are struggling in certain areas. It's very easy to search for lessons on particular standards. These lessons also help me plan my instruction in all ELA areas. I don't tend to use each lesson feature offered on the site. I use the slides and materials to make the lesson on my own. I find that the level of scaffolding that went into designing the lesson gives me a great road map for my instruction. The slides, videos and materials are engaging. The complexity of the texts in the Close Reading lessons aligns with the expectations of the Common Core. It's very easy to create classes in the dashboard of LearnZillion. By creating classes, I can assign activities to my students. Excellent resource!
