How I Use It
Every month, there are activities for the students to practice reading skills while immersing themselves in the world of Harry Potter. When creativity is required, some students may struggle to think outside of the box on their own. Sometimes I may have the students brainstorm ideas and then I'll have us discuss them as a class. The resources on the website, such as a pronunciation guide and a glossary of terms, help the students to become more confident in their reading. The discussion questions for each book are something that I really like because it is open-ended and forces the students to think critically (with some latitude considering they're fiction).
My Take
This reading tool is something that is more teacher-led and allows for more organization of the lesson. It is not discovery-based like some interactive websites and apps, but by using the Harry Potter books, the students are more willing to enjoy themselves in the learning process. This makes it easier to reinforce reading concepts throughout the lessons, such as symbolism and character development.
