A traditionally based math instruction platform. Students can learn new content on their own as each student receives their own pathway. Teachers can also assign practice for skills presented in the class.

How I Use It

I use ALEKS primarily in my gifted and talented 6th grade classroom as an extension. I initially place students in a "class" one grade level (7th grade) above their instructional level. The first time a student logs in they are complete an initial knowledge check and are placed on a path that is prepared specifically for each individual. Students then complete lessons either filling in holes in their understanding or new information. I have found the frequently as I am teaching a new concept in class, many students will comment that they learned this in ALEKS. For this use the program is meeting my needs as it in a traditional way serves as a learning platform for material I am not currently covering in class. I also use ALEKS in an RTI fashion, assigning specific lessons to students that need more support in current classroom concepts. Works beautifully! I have found that at the beginning of the year students were more eager to work within the program, as the year progresses students that don't naturally enjoy math have lost some of their motivation. The program is very straight forward and traditional in its delivery and instruction, not much innovation. The graphics etc. are bland, not very excited or engaging.
