How I Use It
Our district uses this tool school wide. In my classroom I use Accelerated Reader to assess my students reading and math levels, set goals for independent reading, and reward students for meeting goals. Students are motivated to read independently and then check their comprehension by taking a quiz through the AR program. Accelerated Reader also provides data that we use as a grade level to set target goals in reading and math. The independent nature of the program, students log on and work independently, allows for students to read and take quizzes at their pace.
I am a proponent of the the Accelerated Reading program. I have used it in my classroom for 17 years and have found that it is an effective way to assess student levels in reading and math, gain useable data that can be used to drive instruction, and motivate students to reach individual goals.
