Leslie Crenna is a lifelong learner and educator. After earning a bachelor's degree in linguistics from UCSC -- and while gaining her multiple subjects clear teaching credential from SFSU -- Leslie served as project assistant for a mathematics teacher educator program at WestEd, federal research laboratory for the Western region. Leslie taught first and sixth grades in Arizona, where she participated as a master teacher for the annual ASSET National Teacher Training Institute by developing and presenting thematic science lesson plans to fellow educators. Leslie also served as project editor for Oryx Press in Phoenix, then moved on to technical writing and training in support of satellite command and control software for KinetX, an aerospace engineering firm. With the arrival of two children back in California, she dedicated her energies to raising them, as well as fulfilling a two-year cooperative preschool board member position and leading seven years of homeschool teaching, primarily focusing on mathematics, literature, sustainable community gardening, and living history experiences. She most recently served as lead coordinator for a school-based community garden and led a group of 40 through a six-week preparation and two-day trip back in time to early California at Fort Ross. In addition to her current work with Common Sense Media, she's a volunteer with Cool Davis, a community-based organization that promotes sustainability.
