Teachers at all grade levels will benefit from checking out the collection of resources offered by the Zinn Education Project about Native Americans. There are free downloadable teaching activities, articles, books, and films that all serve to provide students with an honest perspective about the treatment of Native Americans throughout history. Highlights of the collection include a role-play about the Trail of Tears, multiple resources that challenge historical views of Columbus, and an article that examines the inaccurate portrayal of the impact of missions on Native Americans that is often taught in elementary schools. Teachers and students should read Zinn's A People's History of the United States, as many of the materials are directly related to specific chapters in the book. The suggested books would be valuable additions to a classroom library and could be assigned for enrichment to supplement the core curriculum.
