Teachers should definitely take advantage of the resources available to support an inclusive classroom environment, to emphasize sensitivity and understanding around LGBTQ issues, and to supplement existing curriculum. The collection offers teaching guides and books and films for purchase. Many of the materials come from GLSEN, the national organization that provides support to educators to address LGBTQ issues in the classroom. Teachers should take time to download the free teaching guides and identify what is a good fit for their students. There are materials to conduct needs assessments and ice breakers, and more advanced lessons that explore language and make connections between homophobia and other forms of oppression. Teachers should take note of the recommended documentaries as they tell personal stories that will no doubt have a long-lasting impact on students.
