How I Use It
This tool allows for teacher to not only know if a student actually watched an assigned video (either in class or for homework) and ensures for engagement throughout the entire viewing period. Zaption allows to you to take a video that you made, or a You Tube video you like, and embed questions throughout to help to guide students through the video watching process. Teachers can use this tool to gauge knowledge on a subject prior to teaching it, or can use the results to group students after. I have used this to introduce a topic, specifically a science lab we would do the following day, and students were asked questions throughout to ensure they were paying attention and would be prepared to participate the following day. You could use this tool for any curricular area!
My overall opinion on this tool is very positive. There is no limit to the ways teachers could use this tool both in and out of the classroom setting. It could be used as a homework assignment, in class work, small group work, etc. The possibilities are endless! Why wouldn't a teacher want to know if his or her students actually watched a video they assigned and didn't just stare at the screen? Students need to be taught how to watch and interact with video to learn concepts, and this tool is exactly the way to do it!
