How I Use It
I use it in class as one of their assignments, usually 2-3 times a week. I also tell students they can do it at home. We have 6 laptops and XtraMath will actually tell the students who to have come over next so they can tell their classmate when it's their turn. This was used as more of a reinforcement than actual learning as it doesn't teach the students. It's great to check for automaticity in math facts.
XtraMath is a great way for students to pass off their math facts. My students especially like the "beat the teacher" part of it. I liked having the data to show the parents where their students were at on their addition facts. The only down part was how hard it was for my 1st graders to be able to get beyond the addition. It takes them a long time to find the number and sometimes it wasn't fast enough to pass. It's a lot easier for the teacher than the regular minute math or popcorn math that you do on paper since the teacher doesn't have to grade them all. When I did it with 2nd graders, they were able to pass off addition a lot quicker and I think it has more to do with not knowing the keyboard as well.
