How I Use It
First grade students practice their spelling words by creating a word cloud with Wordle. This practices both spelling and typing skills at the same time.
Fourth grade students use it during their state research to create a graphic of the resources in their state.
Multiple grades use it as an introduction tool at the beginning of the year to introduce themselves or a partner to the class or create a class bulletin board.
So many more uses!
Wordle is a fantastic tool for word work. It allows students to manipulate already written text by copying and pasting it into Wordle or to create their own typing directly on the website. When using it to evaluate already written work, it will highlight words that are frequently used by making those words larger. For instance, if a student often uses the word "like" in their writing, it will appear larger than other words, perhaps showing the student they use the word too often or which word is the most important in their written work.
It is a fantastic tool for elementary students to practice their typing and have an actual product at the end instead of a 'boring' list of words. It allows for creativity as well, in being able to design the final word cloud.
I do wish the website had an edit feature for being able to go back to the original word list and add/delete/change spelling.
