How I Use It
I use it to have kids identify vocabulary in nonfiction/fiction texts. By inserting a passage, they see the words and identify words they don't know. I also use it for identifying redundancy in their own writing or for identifying the theme in writing. Sometimes, in poetry, I just let them create a Wordle poem. The kids like this program as it's easy to use and can involve higher level thinking. Sometimes I will give them a Wordle and they have to create a story or nonfiction text using the words. This is a great activity.
Wordle can be used when studying a passage of text to see redundancy of words and learn vocabulary. It isn't a high-powered online program but one where students can also insert their own text from a paper or story or poem to see what stands out. They can "see" a theme emerge which is especially helpful for lower level students. But all kids enjoy creating a wordle.
